To paraphrase the immortal words of Britney Spears: oops... we did it again. For the second year running we’ve been named Best Place to Work in Hotel Tech in the HotelTechAwards and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
The award, run by Hotel Tech Report, is decided by people within the industry, which makes it all the more meaningful. Thousands of surveys were filled in by hospitality employees around the world, scoring companies across five categories:
- Work-life balance
- Personal development opportunities
- Gender equality
- Confidence in company direction
- Values alignment
There are loads of amazing companies filling out the rest of the top ten Best Places to Work – including some of our brilliant partners – so it’s a genuine honor to top the list.
The same goes for all our competitors in the Best PMS field – although we were narrowly pipped to top spot in what was the closest battle ever, we’re still hugely proud to finish in second place and as an official Best PMS 2022 Finalist.
“I’m so proud that we’ve been recognized again as the best place to work,” said Matt Welle, our CEO. “Despite adapting to an increasingly remote workplace, we’ve managed to keep hold of our special Mews culture, and that’s a credit to every single person in the company.”
What makes working at Mews special?
Our People Team (aka The Department Formerly Known as HR) work tirelessly to ensure our five core values (ambitious, resilient, curious, open, human) are maintained while ensuring the wellness of every Mewser is taken care of.
“We spent a long time thinking deeply about who we want to be as an organization,” said Tracy Maraj, Chief People Officer at Mews. “Being a great place to work isn’t just about our amazing perks like unlimited holiday, company ownership, and truly flexible benefits – it’s about creating an open environment in which people are challenged, nurtured, and rewarded.”
We used the pandemic as an opportunity to pivot to remote working, first as a necessity but then as standard company practice. That being said, we know that home working isn’t right for everyone. Just as we offer hotel guests a number of different user journeys to suit their preferences, we now do the same for our own teams. We maintain key offices that Mewsers can use whenever they please, and for those not located near an office, we provide access to shared workspaces.
Another way that we’re all encouraged to maintain a healthy work/life balance is through benefits like unlimited holiday and Wellness Wednesdays. One Wednesday each month, everyone is encouraged to take the day off and do whatever it is that recharges your batteries, whether it’s a wholesome hike or some quality time with a book and a cup of tea.
What it’s like to work for Mews?
A picture says a thousand words. So rather than write paragraphs of copy about life at Mews, let me direct you to our Instagram page. It will give you a little insight into our Mewsers (and our customers) and yes, before you say it, there does seem to be a lot of eating and drinking... but when was that ever a bad thing?
If after all that you’re feeling inspired and might like to join Mews, you’re in luck: we’ve got loads of open positions. Check out our careers page to see our live jobs list (currently 50+) and then click through to see a full brief for each role.
Despite 2021 being another difficult year for hospitality, Mews has continued to grow rapidly. In fact, we hired an additional 196 people last year and in 2022 we’re planning to increase headcount by 90% across all functions. In other words, we’re on the lookout for the best and brightest, wherever you are in the world.
This time next year, you’ll hopefully be reading about how we won Best Place to Work in Hotel Tech for the third year running – and maybe you’ll even be a part of the winning team.
